A Beginner's Guide to Elves
This guide is for new players who have chosen Fairy/Elf as their class. It is designed for first time players who will be playing solo.
As an Elf you begin in Noria with a Short Bow. The first thing to do is get familiar with your town. Towards the North, there is a small area where an Elf plays the harp. You can buy from her apples, potions, and basic elf items.
A bit to the soutwest is an Orc who looks like Shrek. From him you can buy arrows and crossbows.
With your starting money, I would suggest purchasing a few apples from the Winged Elf. Don't bother with any other items at this time. You'll notice that one of the boxes (labelled Q) now has a red apple in it. At any time you can press 'Q' on your keyboard and eat an apple. Eating apples restores hitpoints.
Now, with your bow and apples, you're ready to go hunt. I suggest that you go west, to where the Vault kepper is (A man in heavy plate armor). Go west past him and out that entryway...
NOTE: As you leave, notice the two numbers at the bottom left of your screen. Those are coordinates. Remember those numbers, so that you can't get lost in town.
When you leave, you'll draw your bow... at this point you can attack. Look for goblins nearby. If you see some, attack them at a distance, by clicking on them. You'll walk towards them and begin firing arrows. When they get close, it is best to keep attacking them at close range, rather than trying to run away. Only attack one at a time, if you can help it.
In addition to Goblins, there are orange insects called Chain Scorpions. Avoid these for now.
Hunt goblins, moving west and south from the gate. To the north are Hunters and Beetle Warriors, both of which can kill you with one hit. If you see them, run south.
Kill goblins and when they die, pick up the pile of gold or item they leave behind. Eat apples whenver you get to half health. When you are down to one or two apples, head back to town (using your coordinates as a guide).
NOTE: Character and Leveling
At any time you can press 'C' and get character status... check your level, your stats, etc. You can see how many experience you need to advance as well. Every time you advance, several things happen: your hitpoints and mana are replenished to full, you gain a few hitpoints and mana, and you get 5 points to distribute between Strength (How well you fight and how heavy your armor can be), Agility (how good of a bow you can use, how well you dodge), Energy 9what spells you can cast, and how much mana you have), and Vitality (how many hitpoints you have). If this is your first time playing MU, I suggest putting points in Agility and Strength first. Look at any gear you've collected (swords, vine armor, shields) and place your stats so that you can use the items you've picked up.
Once you've gained a couple of levels and placed your points, I suggest that you try to get a full set of vine armor and a good short sword and round shield. Your killing ability is MUCH greater with a sword and shield at low level than a bow.
Now that you are in some armor and fighting in close combat, you can begin to take on Chain Scorpions. Keep a pack full of apples (I suggest 20 or more) and head west out of town, looking for the sand pits. Here you can be constantly fighting chain scorpions and goblins, which is very good for experience. Even though you are getting more powerful, stay away from the Beetle Warriors and Hunters, they are still very deadly. Level up on Chain Scorpions, continuing to bump Strength and Agility until you can wear some Vine +1 items.
Around level 6 or so, it's time to make a decision... How to spend points on becoming an energy elf. Elves are decent fighters, but it is their spells that make them unique. You need 52 energy to cast heal, so now is the time to start putting a few points into Energy. Once you are happy with your basic vine, round shield, and shortsword, I'd suggest putting all your points into energy, even though it isn't directly helping you. Continue levelling on Chain Scorpions until level 10.
At level 10, it's time to buy a Healing Orb from the Elf Store, stock up on apples, and go to Lorencia. Don't stay in Noria... it's a poor place for a low level elf.
Lorencia is t the west, past the sand pits where you've been killing Chain Scorpions. Head there, and you'll load Lorencia, where you'll most likely be immediately swarmed with spiders and dragons. These are nothing... less deadly than Chain Scorpions, so kill them quickly to get used to them.
Head west and south, staying in the area where dragons and spiders are. If you see people in black robes, or skeletons, run away. However, if you see Bull Fighters, take them on and get a feel for them.
You'll eventually make it town (one thing you'll also notice about Lorencia... it is FULL of people and monsters. Noria is quite empty in comparison). In town, there isn't much for you. Explore a bit, but then head out the southwestern exit. Out this gate is a girl who sells potions. Also from here, you can head west and south to fight the nearly limitless numbers of Bull Fighters.
Bull Fighters are a great way to get experience. Kepp bumping up your Energy, and try to find or buy a Goblin Summon Orb (don't spend more than 1,000 Zen on one, though). As soon as you get one and have enough energy, bring up your Inventory and equip it (right click, or double click). Now, you'll have a little Goblin Icon next to your apples. With this here, you can right click outside of town and summon a Goblin. It isn't very powerful, but it can save you from a few hits.
Keep leveling up, until you get to 52 Energy. Then, equip your Healing orb. Now, you can click on the goblin Icon and two icons will appear, the other is a heart. click on it, and now you can right click to cast a healing spell. Right clicking on you heals you, right clicking on other people heals them. Be nice and heal a few folks fighting monsters as you pass, they'll appreciate it
Now, you should be nearing level 15... it's time to decide if you want to focus on becoming an energy elf, or if you think it's time to start building stats to become an archery/agility elf or a strength/melee elf. Pure energy elves are very popular, especially in Davias, but I think a more well-rounded elf is more fun, as you don't rely on a party. However, keep working towards 92 energy (when you can cast advanced defense, advanced offense, and summon assassin), while bumping Strength and Agility to keep upgrading your armor and weapon.
Hopefully this guide will help... I glossed over many things (like leaving from the north and east exits in Noria, where you'll be one-hit killed by golems, how to handle PK/KSers, parties, trading, etc), but this should get you started.
