... when all through the house, a clatter could be heard, the ever faint yet delicate sound of fingers pressing those lovely square keys. Yes! somewhere in this house there was a geek hard at work...

This story may not be entirely accurate, many of the facts included have been slightly exadurated. This story is in fact based off of my experiences in game, I will try to keep it as close to what really happened as possible, however, I believe in entertaining my readers as much as I do informing them, so I will modify events slightly so that it may appear more entertaining.

Prologue

As I waited for MU to download (thank god it's so small), I occupied myself with reading the guide... every word, every single bit, and then I went and looked at the screenshots, and after that, the wallpapers. I was fascinated with the look of the armor that they have plastered all over the website, that's right, that guy in the Dragon Armor with the Dual Blades? Yeah him, and then the Dark Wizard in the blue armor, awesome.. all I gotta say. The time finally came though... the download was finished!

Chapter 1: The First Blade

"So..." I said as I stared at the character creation screen, "which class to choose? hrm.. not an Elf, Wizard or Dark Knight? hrm... bah! gotta go with the swords! (that would be the Samurai fetish kicking in >.>)" and in the game I went. In a brilliant flash of red my character appeared in Lorencia. What was the first thing I noticed? Was it the fact that my character was naked? Or the fancilly dressed warrior and mages scurrying about around me? Nope! it was "gee, this UI looks like crap, and the graphics are less than I was expecting... oh well!" I said as I began familiarizing myself with the UI (that's User Interface.. yeah, the big command bar with dragons on the side on the bottom of your screen.), and while I prodded through my inventory I found an axe. "hrm... axe... going to have to do something about that!" I said as I looked down to find that I had, as I expected, no gold. "Well! that settles that." I say as I begin to wander town. "Now the map showed the newbie monsters, spiders I believe they were, out the South-East side of town..." I began to wander towards the exit, worming my way through the large crowd. Finally, I crossed the bridge and came out into the wilderness with my rather flimsy looking axe drawn and ready for battle! now, if I could only find a spider to step on...

"Ahah! there's one! ROAR!" I yelled as I prepared for battle, Zig-Zagging my way through the swarms of people moving about untill I was in the open, waiting untill it least expected it I pounced! In a matter of seconds the Spider was nothing but a splotch of blood on the ground and a small pile of gold atop the corpse. "ahah! spoils of victory! ... now! to find more!" I exclaimed as I stared out across the rather... empty field. "umm... guess I'll check over there." I said as I began to wander, scurrying about, exploring the expanses of the small field, turning to change course when I ran across a Budge Dragon... for the records, I'd like to point out it's not a very good idea to name a newbie creature "____ Dragon", I don't care if the first word IS Budge, it's still rather discouraging... Alas! I found another spider! as I fought it I noticed something odd, when I hit the spider on my first swing, 2 small glowing blue orbs sprang up from the Spider and swirled around me before being absorbed by my body. I later found out that it's a sort of physical manifestation of experience, everytime you gain experience, you absorb some of those small glowing balls.

My adventures continued, I killed a few more spiders before being attacked by a rather agressive Budge Dragon, and being a man of pride I couldn't just turn and run, no matter if it was a Dragon. It was a tough battle, I survived with about 1/5 of my health, but I killed it! "It was worth 16 Experience compared to the 8 of Spiders hm?" I thought to myself as I looted the zen from it's corpse and tried to sit on the stump next to me. After a few attempts I decided it simply wasn't going to work, so I had better move on, but my health was still very low, and I didn't feel comfortable with fighting under such conditions.

I noticed another thing, the yellow bar that seemed to be my Expierience Bar, right above the Potions hotkey display, seemed to fill, then empty and fill again, yet I wasn't gaining levels, and the experience display said I needed more experience to gain level 2... so how in the world was this bar working? As I studied the UI, I noticed that there was a number to the right side of the bar, and everytime the bar filled, that number went up one... "I see!" I said as I figured it out. "That bar stands for 1/10 of the Experience needed to level, makes sense... that's pretty crafty, you sure notice 1% XP a lot easier when it's displayed as 1/10 of your bar than when it's displayed as 1/100th." I said as I made my way to the campfire to rest. After a bit more hunting I finally hit level 2 and opened the Character Stats menu. I now had 5 points to raise my attributes, yet... which should I raise? it would make sense to raise Stength, Vitality, and Agility since those would all help a warrior, but which should I spend them on? I settled on evening out my Agility at 25 and then put the remaining 3 points into Strength. I now had around 150 Zen and decided it was about time I checked out the stores.

As I wandered to town, I made note of the Peddler outside of the South-East exit who sold potions and Leather Armor. Finally I found the Blacksmith! he had been hiding in the North corner of town, and now that I found him I marvelled at his wares. "ooo.. that looks awesome! and that one! hrm.. but they're all so expensive, and I'm too weak to use them. Hrm, I don't really care to use a Short Sword (too small for my taste.. *cough*), since it's damage and speed are so close to this axe, hrm, so which one should I train for?" I asked myself as I scanned over them. "Well! here's what I can do, that Kriss there is really fast and has better damage than this axe, it'll only take me a few levels to get the skill needed to use it, and then after that, if I get a level or two more, I could buy that Rapier, and the two of those would do great damage compared to the other weapons of similar requirements. Now I had a mission, I wanted those blades, and after arming myself with a new, slightly more powerfull axe, I headed back out to the battlefield to gain the levels I needed to aquire my new goal.

Mmkay, that's it for Chapter 1, I'm too tired to type more. not bad for covering the first hour of gameplay huh? XD

Chapter 2: Defeat of the Dragon

... It was over, the defeated Budge Dragon fell from it's perch in the sky, landing on it's feet for a moment before collapsing on it's side, a pool of blood forming underneath of it. Another Budge Dragon dead, this would be my 5th, not bad for a level 3. But it was risky, and it was taking it's toll out on me. A grin spread across my face, I was getting good at this. I'd killed dozens of spiders now, and only fought Budge Dragons when necessary. A second after the Dragon was dead a small pile of Zen fell from the sky and landed in a heap on the ground... my bounty, for all the trouble that Dragon had cost me, 2 apples because I had entered battle low on health. "Time to collec-hey wait, what the?" In the few seconds I had spent resting, a sly adventurer had made his way over and stolen my pile of gold. I tried calling after him, asking politely if I could have my gold back, but it was futile, he seemed not to hear me. I had seen this in other games... most of them weren't real bad, people typically had the common sense to leave others their bounty, but it seemed that fellow was lacking. "oh well, wasn't that much anyways..." I said to myself as I began my adventure over again. "I hope that doesn't happen often..."

After my incident with the theif, I decided it was best not to worry about it, there would be more gold. But I was having a problem, I had been doing pretty good, but I was having trouble finding new spiders to fight. I would fight a spider and then have to spend a minute or so trying to search for another, and the experience I was getting for them was making leveling a tedious job. So far I had explored all of my little field, trying to avoid Budge Dragons as best as I could, using the roads as boundaries, seeing the occasional Bull Fighter on the other side was far from encouraging. But, I wasn't finding that I needed, not enough spiders at least. I made my way back to the Campfire and Peddler next to the South-East exit of town. I had seen the clearing behind the peddler a few times, but didn't have the desire to trek back there before. Now however, I needed new prey and I was tired of searching so long for it. I took the first steps, crossing the road into my new hunting grounds like a seasoned hunter, I was ready... "Now, where can I find some spiders? .. hey, what's that?" A warrior ran past me in a blur (or at least as much of a blur as you can be while walking.. >.>) and following him was a large swarm of.. Budge Dragons, that's right, my arch nemesis, the Budge Dragon, not just one, but 6, that's right, six... and they were all heading straight at me. Apparently they all decided that the Knight in full armor was a far less appetizing target than say a newbie in nothing but his skibbies, because before I had a chance to turn and run, they swarmed me. Death #1.

After respawning in town I checked to make sure I had all my gold and equipment, I wasn't sure how this game had handled it's death policy, but it seemed I hadn't lost any items or gold. Great, now, to get revenge. Out the exit I went, across the bridge and along the road. "Well, there's where I died, might as well continue further in from there." I moved further North-East, and fortune seemed to be smiling on me now, for right in front of me was not one... not two.. but 3 spiders. "AHAH! Now I'll get revenge!" I charged into battle, Axe and Kriss in hand. The spiders never knew what hit them, death spewed from the wounds in each, the curved blade of my Kriss cut deep and my Axe hacked limbs. After my battle I grinned, I had barely lost any health at all, and now I was 45 Zen richer, and what could be better? The spider on the edge of my screen, that's what. I quickly chased after him as he fled (obviously from the sight of his 3 mutilated brethren). He was running hard, but I was catching up to him, no spider's hurried steps could mask my brisk walk! ... yes, pathetic, I know. I finally caught up to him and finished him quickly, while following him I had passed a couple more spiders and they had decided to help cover their fleeing breather. After finishing off the reinforcements, I was annoyed to find that they had brought in the Cavalry.. 3 Budge Dragons on opposite corners were now moving towards me. Time to flee. I ran north untill I hit the stream and then West untill I ended up in the woods, the Budge Dragons had lost me. Much to my delight, it seemed I had stumbled apon a small camp of spiders, there were 3 more just sitting there.

I wandered my new hunting grounds, far less competition was here and there were at least 3x the amount of prey. Before I knew it, I was level 5 and had over 1000Zen. Time to retrieve that which I had quested so long for, my Rapier. As I walked across the bridge leading into town, I couldn't help but smile, I was finally going to have my weapon, my blade, my sword. Finally I would be able to show what I could really do, finally. After a few moments of haggling with the Blacksmith (something about my axe not being worth buying.. >.>wink.gif I was the proud owner of a brand new Rapier. I quickly equiped it and ran back to my fields. While passing the Peddler I stopped and thought for a moment, I had some spare gold and I was able to equip some of that Leather armor now.... After a quick stop, I proceeded East, then North, now donning new Leather Gloves, Boots, and a Helmet. Apon reaching the stream, a Budge Dragon came into view. The perfect target to test my new steel. I approached him with an air of confidence, it was time these Budge Dragons learned to fear me. I lunged at the Dragon, blades whirling in impressive arcs, it took me but a matter of seconds before the Dragon lay bleeding at my feet. 7 points of damage was all it had dealt. I felt like a god.

After hunting my fields and the surrounding area (feeling far more secure in my power now that I was better equiped) I began to slaughter creatures mercilessly, looting and plundering as I went. I made level 9 in record time, the levels seemed to fly past me. I had also purchased the rest of my leather suit. Before I knew it, I was craving for a challenge, the Budge Dragons I had strived to destroy for so long now cowered in my wake. I took on swarms, 6 at a time were now nothing to me, they would all die, one at a time. I began to wander, and suddenly a thought came to mind, I remembered those Bull Fighters I had seen to the West of my old hunting grounds... perhaps it was time i paid them a visit. I traveled across the fields, following the roads back to town, then travelled South-West untill I saw one, a large Bull, standing on it's hind legs. I grinned, shivvering with anticipation. A new prey, prey which I had been so afraid of earlier... finally, a challenge. I lunged into battle, the Bull Fighter turned to look at me as I swung at it, it simply shrugged off the attack and lunged into battle. a few seconds and 1 apple latter, the Bull Fighter laid dead at my feet. Finally I was sure, this was my next prey, my next challenge. Just up the Hill to the South-West of me was a small camp, it seemed to be a bunch of stumps surrounding various fires, and there right on the edge of my vision was another Bull Fighter. I had found my new Hunting Grounds.
